The Impucuzeko Maskandi Festival, lauded for promoting social cohesion and presenting emerging maskandi artists with an opportunity to gain exposure by sharing the stage with renowned musical acts, once again took centre stage.

The music extravaganza, now in its 11th edition, was held at the Moses Mabhida’s People’s Park on Saturday, August 17.

The event organisers are in a three-year contractual agreement to work with the eThekwini municipality.

More than 25 000 music lovers from across the country descended on eThekwini for the musical spectacle, and over 50 businesses got the opportunity to boost their sales at the event.

eThekwini Municipality spokesperson Gugu Sisilana said the City will continue to support young developing artists and small businesses through financial assistance and presenting them with strategic business opportunities.

“We are extremely proud of hosting yet another successful festival. Now dubbed the World Cup of Maskandi music, the festival not only focussed on the performing arts, but also presented an opportunity for more than 50 businesses to trade,” said Sisilana.

Taking the stage were Gatsheni, Stabhilithi, Ntencane, Mzukulu, Khuzani, Sminoff, Ntencane, Amageza Amahle, Mlabalaba, Ndoni and Jaiva Zimnike, among many others.
