Durban – The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) in KwaZulu-Natal announced the resumption of the North Coast corridor train service from Durban to oThongathi today, October 11.
This comes after at least 80% of Transnet staff downed tools following a deadlock in wage negotiations on Thursday.
The Mercury reported yesterday the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) confirmed its workers had joined the strike which was started by the United National Transport Union (Untu) last week.
“Prasa KZN management is comfortable that the situation is now calm to provide a normal service in the interest of fare-paying customers who deserve safe travel in a secure environment,” said provincial Prasa spokesperson Zama Nomnganga.
On Monday Transnet workers gathered outside the parastatal’s building in Edwin Swales Drive as the nationwide strike entered its second week.
In a video on social media, dozens of workers could be seen outside the building. Some of them were holding placards.
