Durban – A tip-off has led to the arrest of three men for dealing in drugs in the Westcliff area of Chatsworth in Durban on Friday.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said in a statement on Monday that on December 9, 2022, Hawks members from the Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit working together with Crime Intelligence, Public Order Policing and Durban Metro Police arrested three suspects for allegedly dealing in drugs.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo said police received information about drug dealing activities in the area.

He said an intelligence driven operation was conducted and they proceeded to the place in question.

“A search was conducted and heroin capsules, mandrax tablets, crack cocaine as well as paraphernalia to the street value of approximately R30 000 were seized,” said Mhlongo.

Mhlongo said the three suspects were subsequently placed under arrest and charged for dealing in drugs.

“They are expected to appear in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court today [Monday],” he said.

Last month police reported that provincial organised crime investigation operations had yielded positive results.

The Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit together with Bhekithemba police conducted and operation based on information about suspects in possession of drugs and firearms in uMlazi.

Police said members proceeded to identified premises and conducted a search and recovered an AK 47, a R4 rifle, 220 rounds of ammunition as well as various drugs.

“Philani Sikhosana, 31, and Sumeya Mabaso,36, appeared before the uMlazi Magistrate’s Court on 25 November 2022 for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of drugs as well as possession of a suspected stolen vehicle,” said provincial spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo.

Ngcobo said in a separate operation the same team proceeded to eManzimtoti where they executed a search warrant. During a search of the premises, the police officers recovered cocaine and heroin capsules with an estimated value of R142 000.

She said two suspects aged between 29 and 32 were arrested.
