The South African Police Service recently revealed that a car gets hijacked in the country every 41 minutes.
Rather alarmingly, car hijackings increased by 14.2% in 2014/15, with 12 773 cases reported in 2014/15 compared to 11 180 in 2013/14.
That's 35 incidents per day, up from 31 in 2013/14 and 28 in 2013/13.
Research undertaken by Arrive Alive shows that most hijackings occur between 5pm and 8pm, when people are heading home from work, and while it helps to keep this in mind, one should be highly vigilant at any time of day.
