Renault's budget brand Dacia has released these two photos of the revised-for-2014 Duster SUV, just ahead of its world premiere on 9 September at the Frankfurt motor show.

The upgrades, directed at left hand-drive European markets, add "life-style" 4x4 styling tweaks to the entry-level Romanian family crossover - starting with a revised front treatment that includes a new grille with two chromed strips, a re-shaped air intake and new double-optic headlights with daytime running lights.

ROBUST, GO-ANYWHERE PERSONA

New roof bars with slatted supports and 16" 'dark metal' alloy rims shod with mud-and-snow tyres underscore the Duster's robust, go-anywhere persona, while new tail light clusters, a chromed tailpipe and new badging brighten the rear treatment.

The Frankfurt premiere falls just 24 hours before the South African release of its Renault Duster sibling, so we asked Renault SA what the relationship was, and when the upgrades would reach the local market.

The answer is that the Dacia Duster in these pictures is built in Romania for the EU market, while the right hand-drive Renault Duster destined for South Africa is made in Chennai, India - and already incorporates most of the detail upgrades seen here.

We'll be attending the SA launch, so look out for driving impressions on Friday 12 September.
