Beaulieu, Hampshire – One of the strangest exhibits at Britain’s National Motor Museum is this new one, a full-size working caravan made entirely of Lego blocks
.
It’s a replica of a retro-style T@B 320 teardrop caravan – 3.6 metres long, 2.2 metres tall and weighing in at 1200kg.
Inside it you’ll find eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes cooking in a frying pan on the two-plate gas stove, toothbrushes and a tube of toothpaste by the sink, a milk carton in the fridge, a vase of flowers on the table and even a complete chess set, all made out of standard off-the-shelf Lego pieces – there are no custom-made parts.
Certified by the Guinness Book of Records as ‘the largest caravan built with interlocking plastic bricks’ it has electric lights, running water and even seats that fold into a bed.
It was built on a conventional caravan chassis, using 215 158 Lego blocks, and took 12 modelmakers more than 1000 man-hours over a period of two months to assemble.
