The 221kW/380Nm Audi S3 Sportback is one of four new Audi models making their South African debut at the show. The other three remain a state secret for now.
The BMW 4 Series Coupe will be making its South African debut at JIMS.
Radical new BMW i3, due in SA next year, is a lightweight hatchback built around an electric drivetrain.
Chevrolet has hinted that it will be bringing a sports car to JIMS. Our bets are on it being the new Corvette Stingray.

The Chinese onslaught is set to continue with the C50, which GWM describes as its most sophisticated passenger car to date. Due in SA soon, the elegantly-styled C-segment sedan is powered by a 98kW 1.5-litre turbopetrol engine.
Also due in SA soon, the GWM M4 will take on the compact crossover crowd. Power is provided by the familiar 1.5-litre 77kW petrol engine. Not sure if BMW will approve of the name though.
Hyundai Veloster Turbo: with its 150kW 1.6-litre force-fed-four, the Veloster will finally have the go to match the show.
Infiniti plans to preview a brand new product at JIMS and logic dictates that it must be the new Q50, which is set to go up against 3 Series and friends.

JIMS showgoers will get to check out the fastest sedan Jaguar has ever made. The 405kW/680Nm XFR-S is powered by a supercharged 5-litre V8 and hits 100km/h in just 4.6 seconds.
Kia will be pulling the covers off its new 150kW turbocharged Cerato Koup.
The Camry-based Lexus ES 250 goes on sale in early November, hot on the heels of its Joburg show debut.

IOL ordered a crystal ball so that we could fill you in on all the coolest surprises lined up for the Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS). Unfortunately it fell off the ship and got salvaged by Somali pirates.

Not to worry, our friends at the car companies have filled us in on most of the exciting new cars that they'll be unveiling when the show opens to the media on Wednesday 16 October. Yet many of them have hinted that there will be a few surprises that won't be spoken of until the covers are lifted.

Lacking the budget for a fortune teller, we've assembled a gallery featuring the multitude of cars that have been confirmed for the show.

If gawking at concept cars is your thing then best you make a date with the Ford Evos , Citroën GQ and Toyota 86 Open . The Joburg show will also play host to an international debut in the form of the Renault Duster Detour concept, which was designed with South African input.

TYRE-KICKING BLISS

JIMS is very much a tyre-kicking extravaganza where showgoers can enjoy a sneak preview of numerous new models that will be landing in their nearest showroom in the not-too-distant future.

This year's line-up covers everything from potent super-saloons like the Jaguar XFR-S to sensible sedans such as the all-new Toyota Corolla and just about everything in-between.

The show will serve up its fair share of shapely new coupés, like the new BMW 4 Series , Kia Cerato Koup and Hyundai Veloster Turbo . It also goes big on luxury, with the likes of Merc's new S-Class and CLA , the latest Range Rover Sport , Lexus ES and Infiniti Q50 all making their first appearance on African soil.

Sadly, the show won't reach its full potential this year as seven car brands (Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Chrysler, Fiat, Porsche, Suzuki and Volvo) won't be represented. Perhaps the show organisers will need to look at sweetening the deal for car companies when the show returns in two years from now.

Nonetheless, the cars themselves are not the only attractions at a show like JIMS, with exhibitors offering a variety of activities from 4x4 courses to drifting displays and stands offering merchandise like clothing, artwork, model cars and books.

JIMS takes place at the Johannesburg Expo Centre in Rand Show Road and opens to the public on Friday 18 October, running until Sunday 27 October.
