Dearborn, Michigan - Ford and Lego are getting in on the current Mustang mania, fuelled by the re-discovery of the iconic “Bullitt” movie car and the new limited-edition Bullitt 50th anniversary commemorative model, by adding a new kit to the Lego Speed Champions line-up.

The 183 piece kit represents a 1968 Mustang fastback in race trim, in dark green (of course!) complete with go-fast stripes and big racing wheels in gold, lots of racing stickers, a removable windscreen and a miniature figurine of a driver wearing a period racing suit.

There’s even a timing board with a Blue Oval logo.

“The new set gives parents and children the chance to share their passions,” said Lego Speed Champions marketing manager Myra Lind. “Generations of car fans have grown up building Lego sets and spending time together in their cars - now kids of all ages can enjoy this 50th anniversary special.”

Ford licensing manager Matt Monroe explained: “We worked closely with Lego to design a vintage Mustang, adding the stripes and decals to celebrate Ford’s racing heritage.”

The 1968 Ford Mustang will be released for sale on 1 March at $14.99 (R180), joining the historic GT40 and new Ford GT racing cars, the F-150 Raptor off-road performance truck, Fiesta WRC rally car, a classic Ford hot rod and the 2015 Ford Mustang in the Lego Speed Champions Ford collection.
