We all agree that we should be doing our bit for road safety but few of us actually get off our butts and do something, like racing driver Clare Vale, who also chairs the Women in Road Safety forum.
What she did was to approach the local music industry to put together a Road Safety CD for the December holiday season.
“We had an incredible response from local artists when we approached them to contribute to this project,” Vale said.
“Our horrific road-accident statistics have touched most people, and each musician we contacted wanted to make a difference by taking part. We believe most drivers will enjoy listening to the outstanding local music - and they'll hear positive road safety messages expressed by the artists between each track.”
Vale said the CD provided an ideal opportunity to get the road safety message across in a positive way, through celebrities who are seen as role models.
ON THE ROAD
By distributing the CD on busy roads during holiday time, the likelihood of drivers and their families listening to the CD immediately and taking note of the positive, personal road safety messages will be increased - and by using original recordings and familiar local artists, the CD should also have a 'shelf life' beyond December.
Artists featured include The Parlotones, The Ice Project, Kurt Darren, Lonehill Estate, Watershed, Loyiso, Arno Carstens, Lady Lea with Poy Zen Ivy, Chromium, Gang of Instrumentals, Monique, Jamali and Lloyd Cele - all of whom donated their tracks free of charge and found time to record personal road-safety messages for the CD.
The CDs will be available free of charge at the N3 Mooi Toll Plaza on the 14th and 15th of December, and at the Shell Montrose Ultra City outlet, which is also hosting the Women in Road Safety child seat safety campaign. A limited number will also be distributed at Hertz Car Rental outlets in other parts of the country.
The CD will be linked to a simple road-safety activation with exciting prizes, so watch the media or visit the Women in Road Safety website for more information.
