Johannesburg - Our print sister publication Star Motoring nundertook a study to see what our readers like to read about. The research was conducted via our Insight reader panel, where readers have signed up to be on a panel and the research was done via an on-line questionnaire.

READERS

An incredible 72 percent of you are regular readers (reading at least three editions in a month) and more than half are reading the publication every week of the month.

BUYING A NEW CAR

You were unanimous: the most important aspect when buying a new car is the test drive. The next critical factor is an expert opinion/review in the newspaper. To that end we will continue to cover new models and carry out our own road tests, measuring true performance (at altitude) using satellite-based V-Box testing equipment. You specifically stated that you like to know the true performance and fuel consumption of cars, which often differs from manufacturer claims.

The third important factor when buying a vehicle is the dealership and its reputation.

FINANCING

When it gets to the financing of the vehicle, you do not know enough about residual and balloon payments; and you definitely want more of this information; you want to be informed and educated. So be on the lookout for informative articles on car financing.

The topics that drive your interests also include road safety, fuel economical vehicles, vehicle care tips, technology and new-vehicle prices.

Although you like reading about fuel-efficient vehicles, 7 in 10 of you reflect a strong interest in high-performance cars. We also cover a fair share of motorcycle news and racing. The overall interest levels are lower than some of the other topics but that is well in line with motorcycle ownership. Half our readers really like reading about MotoGP racing.

You tend to have a very particular relationship with your cars stating that it is a strong relationship and more-so that it is part of your persona.

We will continue to do ad-hoc surveys and we would like your opinion. Join our on-line reader panel and not only do you get airtime (or other incentives) but you also get the opportunity to add your voice and help us improve your reading pleasure.
