So you enjoy driving and need a bit of a holiday at the same time?
Then check out this cool initiative with satellite navigation company TomTom.
It’s called the Map Paradise Project, and is an opportunity for five families (or groups of friends) to spend two weeks on a tropical island, earning R100 000 in the process.
The idea is to create five new navigable maps for Fiji, St. Lucia, Mauritius, Cape Verde, and the Seychelles.
Those selected will simply need to drive around their chosen island in a specially-equipped mapping car – which is the first step in TomTom’s map-making process.
This mapping field work could take anything from a day to two weeks
That depends on how much time is spent “sunbathing, swimming or exploring”.
Successful applicants can take up to four family members or friends with them - in total five groups will be chosen (all expenses will be covered by TomTom), and each group will earn a cool R100 000 for their efforts.
“This project will not only create five new navigable maps, it will give people a unique insight into how our maps are made. And where better to start mapping then on a beautiful paradise island,” said Daan Henderickx, Country Manager for TomTom SA.
To apply fill in a form online - no mapping experience is needed but you will need to state why you think your group is best suited for the task.
One of your group must obviously be able to drive.
And remember, TomTom is looking for people who “enjoy exploring beautiful places, don’t mind great weather and who have a decent sense of direction”. - Star Motoring
