Port Elizabeth – The Isuzu KB X-Rider was originally released a year ago as a limited run of just over 700 units, which sold out fast enough that GMSA has brought it back as a standard model.
Now officially badged as the KB250 X-Rider 4x2 Double Cab, it has Isuzu’s 100kW/320Nm 2.5-litre turbodiesel, introduced as part of the September 2015 KB facelift, and a standard-fit heavy-duty tow-bar, giving it a 2.1-ton braked trailer towing capacity.
But we’re not talking about towing farm trailers or building materials here, although the X-Rider will do it.
Rather envisage taking your favourite playtoys to your favourite playground; the X-Rider has a black bumper guard with built-in foglights, tubular side steps and sports bar in black with X-Rider logos, blacked out B pillars to match, and special diamond-cut 18 inch alloys shod with low-profile 255/50 Grabber AT all-terrain rubber.
Inside, you’ll find full leather upholstery, steering wheel trim and gear-lever boot, all with red contrast stitching, X-Rider logos on the front head restraints and a red X in the same font on the door trims, complemented by piano black trim on the doors, air vents, audio-system fascia and front console.
Standard kit includes remote keyless entry, satellite audio controls on the steering wheel, air conditioning and projector headlights with daytime running lights.
The X-Rider comes in your choice of white, red or silver for R388 400, which includes a five-year or 120 000km warranty and roadside assistance program and a five-year or 90 000km service plan; given that service intervals are 15 000km or 12 months, that means your first six services are free.
