A 43-year-old man is due to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court in the Free State on Tuesday, November 5, for allegedly killing his girlfriend.

The man is accused of stabbing Jeanette Mofokeng, 49, to death.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Sergeant Sinah Mpakane said this all began on October 19 at 8pm when police received a complaint of murder at Phase 3, Bloemspruit.

Mpakane said authorities were dispatched to the crime scene. Upon getting there, officials met with the father of the deceased.

“He told the police that the deceased, Mofokeng, 49, was in the shack with her boyfriend. He further said later on, when he went to check on his daughter, he found her lying dead with multiple stabbed wounds on her body,” Mpakane added.

Police said the partner was nowhere to be found.

Paramedics pronounced Mofokeng dead at the scene, and a shattered knife was discovered near her body. A case of murder was reported. Intelligence-driven information resulted in the arrest of the suspect in the Bloemspruit area.

In a similar case, a 74-year-old woman was discovered stabbed to death, also reportedly by her lover, in a housing complex in Cornubia City, north of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) said the woman was found dead by neighbours, soon after they heard her having a heated argument with her boyfriend.
