A 22-year-old Limpopo man is scheduled to appear before the Seshego District Court on Monday, facing charges of rape, after he allegedly raped his sister.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo provincial police spokesperson, said the 22-year-old accused man is a step-brother to the victim, who is a girl aged 11.

“It is reported that, the victim's mother received a call from school urging her that she reports to the school. When the mother arrived at the school, the victim’s teacher informed her that her daughter claimed that she had been raped by her stepbrother,” said Ledwaba.

The mother went home and she later asked her daughter to confirm the allegations. The little girl confirmed that she had been raped multiple times by her step-brother.

“On 23 September 2024, the suspect allegedly entered the victim's room, undressed her, and raped her. When the mother of the victim confronted him with the allegations, he denied them,” said Ledwaba.

The mother then reported the incident to the police on Friday, and the docket was transferred to the Seshego family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit for further investigations.

The 22-year-old suspect was arrested on Saturday.

Meanwhile, provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the incident “in the strongest possible terms”.

Hadebe emphasised that police across the province are committed to combat crimes against minors and holding culprits accountable for their heinous acts.

Last year, IOL reported that a 29-year-old Limpopo man was sentenced to three life sentences in prison for raping his 12-year-old niece at Tjatjaneng Ga-Mothapo, Limpopo.

The Mankweng Regional Court convicted and sentenced the 29-year-old man of Tjatjaneng Ga-Mothapo to three life sentences for the rape of a 12-year-old minor girl.

The name of the rapist is withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
