The Eastern Cape Department of Education intensified its drug abuse awareness campaign today, following a successful event in Paterson, Sarah Baartman. Educators, experts, and students gathered to engage in discussions about the growing concerns of drug abuse among schoolchildren.

Students from various schools presented their knowledge and perspectives on drug abuse, showing their understanding of the topic. This initiative allowed educators to gauge the students awareness and perceptions, helping to identify the root causes of the increasing number of learners turning to drugs.

“We are committed to protecting our students and equipping them with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions,” a department spokesperson said.

“Through these campaigns, we aim to foster a safer, healthier learning environment for all,” the department said.

Today’s event featured interactive presentations, discussions, and activities designed to inform students about the dangers of drug abuse. The campaign is part of a larger initiative that will culminate in a significant event on August 16, 2024, in Kirkwood.

During this event, the department has said it plans to unveil a comprehensive strategy to combat drug abuse in schools across the region, and will keep the communities informed about the campaign and the upcoming main event at Kirkood.
