Durban, KwaZulu-Natal has embraced the holiday spirit with the recent activation of its Christmas lights, an important occasion commemorated by eThekwini Mayor Councillor Cyril Xaba.
Xaba formally turned on the lights on Dr Pixley ka Seme Street (formerly West Street), a renowned boulevard that serves as a welcoming gateway to the City's exuberant celebrations.
In his remarks, Mayor Xaba sent warm wishes to all citizens as the holiday season begins, underlining the significance of compassion and community solidarity at this time.
He urged everyone to perform acts of kindness, including lending a helping hand to relatives and neighbours.
Xaba also highlighted Durban's status as one of the country's premier tourism destinations.
"The City is committed to warmly welcoming visitors throughout the holiday season," he said.
Another set of stunning of lights that bring on the festive spirit and are at the Durban Botanic Gardens with its Trail of Lights.
This year's event, entitled 'Celebration', honours an astonishing eight years of spectacular light and joy, all taking place in the lush settings of Africa's oldest surviving botanic garden.
The display runs from December 6, 2024, to January 3, 2025, coinciding with the gardens' 175th anniversary.
The captivating show has a plethora of new attractions sure to entertain guests of all ages. Some of the attractions are an inventive Santa's Workshop, a Build-A-Bear Workshop, and themed sections using the unique Whale Tails created by the South African Association of Marine Biology Research (SAAMBR).
The 2024 festival promises entertainment every evening, with live music and festive characters creating an immersive experience around the gardens. The show will also feature two food gardens with a variety of meals and beverages to suit every appetite.
