Motorists in areas of Soweto were left stranded after heavy rains lashed the Gauteng on Tuesday.
Johannesburg Emergency Services said motorists were unable to drive between the areas of Klipvalley Road and the Nancefield Hostel.
Speaking to SABC, Joburg Emergency Services spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi, said roads in Soweto were flooded and three cars were trapped in the area. He said emergency personnel had to rush to the area to assist those motorists.
The South African Weather Service (Saws) previously issued a Yellow Level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms in Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
No weather warning has been issued for Gauteng on Wednesday.
Saws said residents can expect cloudy conditions in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm for the rest of the day.

For Wednesday's weather, Saws has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for wind and waves between Hout Bay and Plettenberg Bay in the morning.
"This will lead to difficulty in navigating at sea as well as small vessels and personal water crafts taking on water and capsizing," the forecaster said.
Meanwhile an extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over eastern parts of the Northern Cape.
The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy and cool to warm weather while isolated showers can be expected over the North West, Free State, Northern Cape and Western Cape.
