You have less than two weeks to submit your personal income tax return which is due on Friday, July 8.

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has reminded taxpayers filling in their returns not to make unnecessary mistakes, which will result in the return being rejected or a delay in processing it.

SARS says one of the most common mistakes people make is that they forget to sign their returns.

A tax return that is not signed is automatically rejected, SARS says, which could mean a penalty for late submission.

Tax returns should also include your bank details with the branch number of your bank, SARS says, so that refunds can be deposited in your account.

The documents which you must include with the tax return are your IRP5, a certificate from your medical scheme (if applicable), retirement annuity certificates and any IT3(b) certificates issued by financial institutions and any other documents which substantiate claims for rebates, SARS says.
