The Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Unisa, Professor Puleng LenkaBula, has taken senior management of the university to a strategic lekgotla to reflect on the institution’s implementation of its strategy as well as pave a way forward for the current academic year and beyond.
The two-day lekgotla is taking place in Benoni and ends on Tuesday.
LenkaBula convenes makgotla annually to enable the Unisa leadership to address pertinent strategic issues impacting on institutional academic and support environments.
The focus of this specific lekgotla will be, amongothers, on enrolment management, which is one of the 10 key priority areas for Unisa.
The lekgotla will also give special attention to the 10 Catalytic Niche Areas introduced by LenkaBula which, if properly integrated, can serve as a significant drawcard for postgraduate students, which the university is keen to grow. There will be a serious reflection on how these will be fused into the university’s Engaged Scholarship and Programme Qualification Mix.
Ian Paterson and Thabo Mogane, who are experienced strategy consultants, will facility the discussions over the two days, while entrepreneur, Dr Kennedy Dakile will deliver a keynote address on the topic: “Opportunities and Missed Opportunities by universities”.
Representatives of the Unisa epistemic communities, including Organised Labour, the National Student Representative Council, the Unisa Women’s Forum and the Unisa Black Forum are also in attendance and will share perspectives from their respective constituencies.
