Johannesburg - This week we feature model, entertainer and award-winning actress Refilwe Modiselle.
She is the country's first professional fashion model with albinism.
She started her modelling career at the age of 13 when she was approached by Y! magazine. She also appeared as a runway model in 2005 for South African designer David Tlale, making her the first albinistic model to appear on a runway in South Africa.
Modiselle has also had some experience in the music industry where she performed as a backing vocalist for South African singer Keabetswe “KB” Motsilanyane while in school.
She was nominated to the Oprah Magazine 2013 Power List and began an acting career.
She won several awards for her gripping lead performance in the award-winning international short film White Gold.
The one thing that has caught your attention on social media in the last week is…?
The outpouring of love with the passing of Kuli Roberts and the major accomplishment that Lerato Kganyago shared of owning her own hotel and restaurant. That's an incredible milestone.
You are able to travel anywhere in the world for a photo shoot. You are also able to choose the photographer of your choice. Where do you choose to go to and which photographer would you choose?
I would love to shoot in Thailand with Trevor Stuurman.
The biggest misconception people have of Refilwe Modiselle is…?
The biggest misconception is that my albinism made me. Nope! Working hard and fighting through all I've embarked on is what's shaped my life wins.
The meal that most reminds you of your childhood is…?
My mom's Sunday seven colours combination.
Tell us about the worst date you've ever had?
I was on a date with someone who said absolutely nothing because they were busy on the phone the entire night at the table. I was so unimpressed.
What is the one thing most people don't know about you?
I can sing.
What do you consider the proudest moment of your life?
Being named Africa's first successful model with albinism in 2013 and the latest pride and joy as I've evolved is winning my first time ever two best actress awards and one best acting award between 2020/2021 for my lead role in the award-winning international short film I did called White Gold.
Your definition of love is…?
Love is God. Knowing God in you deeply and allowing your light to radiate to all. Being able to give beautiful energy.
A wild night of partying or a night in binging Netflix?
I enjoy being indoors more than the streets. Netflix and chill would be first prize.
Your favourite restaurant in SA is…? And what do you order?
It has to be Marble. Their Wagyu is delicious.
