Cape Town City have received a significant boost in their bid to move up the Betway Premiership table with the signing of former Bafana Bafana and Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Thulani Serero.
The 34-year-old playmaker was once the darling of Cape football, having made his name at the now defunct Ajax Cape Town, who he led to a best-ever second-place finish in his last season in South Africa before moving abroad.
His performances at the heart of the Urban Warriors’ midfield saw him claim numerous individual awards, including the PSL Footballer of the Year, Player of the Season, Players' Player of the Season, and the ABSA Premiership Red Hot Young Player awards.
Cape Town made him. The world witnessed him.

Serero’s list of accomplishments grew even further once he moved to Europe, winning three Eredivisie titles and a Dutch Super Cup with Ajax Amsterdam before moving to the Middle East where he also won the UAE Cup and UAE Super Cup during his time with Al-Jazira and Khor Fakkan.
City are currently 10th in the Betway Premiership standings, with 21 points from 19 games, and will benefit greatly from Serero’s experience and skill.
"Cape Town City Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Thulani Serero, marking his monumental return to South Africa's top flight. Welcome home, Cream," the club posted on its social media platforms.
Serero only has a few days to settle in at his new club with the Citizens set to face AmaZulu at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban on Sunday.
