Kaizer Chiefs have snagged the services of DR Congo winger Makabi Lilepo, according to reports on Tuesday.

FarPost reported that the 27-year-old had signed with Chiefs on a R9.6 million contract.

Lilepo joins from French third division club Valenciennes FC.

The DR Congo player with almost a dozen caps, came through the youth structure at AS Vita Club in Kinshasa.

Smart move

His major break though, came when he signed for Valenciennes in 2023.

Meanwhile, Chiefs have slowly risen up the table this season, as they currently hold fifth spot after 14 matches in the Betway Premiership.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi took charge of the Soweto Giants at the beginning of the season, after the side ended in a lowly 10th place on the log last term.

Earlier this month, Nabi said taking risks would be the key to making progress for the club. He went on to explain that he would not have his team play an attacking, attractive type of football if he feared for his job.

“It's been six months and we feel that regarding our game model, the team has changed, especially in how we play. The inconsistency of the result doesn't help," Nabi told KickOff.

"But if I was afraid for my spot [job], if I wanted, I could play a mid-block, play defensive, look for counter-attacks with Ashley Du Preez, who is very fast, and getting the result like that.

"But is it the DNA of this big club? No, we want this big club to play attractive football, attractive football means a lot of risks too

"We have to build on that, we have to believe on that, we're gonna continue to improve every day.”
