Fresh off their victory in the MTN8 final, Orlando Pirates are still placing heavy emphasis on their performance in the Betway Premiership according to striker Tshegofatso Mabasa.

Pirates claimed an unprecedented third MTN8 crown in a row, as they beat Stellenbosch FC on October 5.

However, as much cup success as Pirates achieve — there’s always the lingering pressure of winning the league again.

While Pirates did finish second in the league last season, it was the seventh title in a row for Mamelodi Sundowns.

All good things come to an end

The league domination of Sundowns, though, has to come to an end at some point. Pirates would hope they would be the side to don the league crown if that were the case this season.

Although Pirates are next in action on Saturday in the Telkom Knockout against Magesi FC, Mabasa could not hide his yearning for league honours.

“The biggest things for us are to be consistent and get the results regardless of the performance that we may put out there,” he said.

“The most important thing in the league is results. And that’s what we are aiming to do together as a group. Those are the things we’ve got to do for ourselves.”

Working in Pirates’ favour is the tight-knit squad explained Mabasa.

“We’ll continue to work hard towards doing that. The unity between ourselves, and the belief we have in one another, hopefully, will help us to pull through … so that we go all the way.”
