After lighting up television screens in various local productions, Moya (real name Nomoya Refiloe Dube) is taking a break from acting to embark on a music career alongside world-renowned artists.
She is set to embark on a tour of the US and UK with the likes of Lauryn Hill, YG Marley and D.I.O.
The Mpumalanga-born artist, who has starred in shows such as “The Queen” and “The River”, is currently based in Los Angeles. She recently signed a record label deal with the USA’s Asanda Empires
She is now officially set to launch her rap career in the MHL & The Fugees Tour, which kicks off this month, where she will perform in cities like Paris, London and Amsterdam.
With her musical style including elements of Caribbean hip hop, a touch of country and reggae, she is due to release her new single, “Big Boy Gun” this Women’s Month.
"I am honoured to be making my debut on such a big platform,” Moya told “Zimoja”.
"I expected to blow up but not first in the US. But you can never pre-empt your journey to success.’
"That is how I was able to navigate my way in the US before doing it at home. It has been worth the hard work, and long hours in the studio."
Moya also believes that her foray into music is a manifestation of her dreams and she is excited about working with some of the world’s top stars.
“I can't wait to meet Lauryn Hill, she has been an inspiration to many women in the hip hop business.”
Meanwhile, she has also featured on a song with Snoop Dogg, B Taylor as well as another one with the “It’s on Me”’ hitmaker and Flo Rida.
"Both those are not my songs, but I am a feature, and for them to see my potential is a big deal,' she added to the online publication.
"I don't know when they plan to release that music but I know people will love the music.”
