Sabrina Carpenter has been dominating social media and the airwaves with the release of her hit songs “Espresso” and “Please Please Please”.
As the highly quotable tracks, which were released in April and June, respectively, continue to garner millions of streams online and ascend the charts, the world-renowned musician and actress revealed that fans wouldn’t have to wait much longer for her new music.
The 25-year-old took to Instagram to announce that her sixth studio album, “Short n’ Sweet”, will be released next month.
The 12-track offering, which is a cheeky reference to her 4’11” height, is set to mark somewhat of a shift in style for the singer.
During an interview with “Cosmopolitan” in March, Carpenter suggested that her new album would see her going in a new direction
“Well, I feel so grateful that I’ve been able to tour an album that I really care about for almost two years and that my fans have given it a life longer than I ever could have asked for.
“I put two and a half years into making this album, and it’s a shitty feeling when you put so much time into something and people want something new in two months.
“So I’m trying to really take this experience in before moving on to the next thing,” she was quoted as saying.
Carpenter added: “But I’ve been working on the next thing for a minute. I’m starting to feel like I’ve outgrown the songs I’m singing, which is always an exciting feeling, because I think that means the next chapter is right around the corner.”
Meanwhile, Carpenter also announced recently that “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” will feature on “Short n’ Sweet”, along with 10 new tracks such as "Taste", "Sharpest Tool", "Coincidence" and "Bed Chem".
Her new album comes after a whirlwind few years for the pop star, who continues to make her mark in the industry.
She has released five studio albums, two extended plays, 24 singles, including five as a featured artist as well as 23 promotional singles and 31 music videos.
Carpenter also joined Taylor Swift's incredibly successful “Eras Tour”.
But her entertainment breakthrough came as an actress when she featured on the NBC drama series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” back in 2011.
Since then, she had a recurring role in “The Goodwin Games” and starred in the 2013 horror-fantasy movie, “Horns”, alongside “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe.
Her singing debut only came in 2012, when she recorded "Smile" for the compilation album “Disney Fairies: Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust”, which was inspired by the Disney Fairies film series.
Carpenter’s foray into animation continued with “Sofia the First”, when she voiced Princess Vivian.
These roles cast her into the spotlight and, in January 2013, Carpenter was cast as Maya Hart in the Disney Channel series, “Girl Meets World”, a spin-off of the hugely successful “Boy Meets World”.
Carpenter even recorded the show's theme song alongside her co-star Rowan Blanchard.
In March 2014, she released her debut single, "Can't Blame a Girl for Trying", which was co-written by Meghan Trainor.
The single was a hit and her debut EP of the same name was released three months later.
Alongside several singing and acting gigs, Carpenter then released "We'll Be the Stars" in January 2015, which served as the lead single for her debut studio album “Eyes Wide Open”, which was released in April 2015.
In October 2016, Carpenter released her second studio album, “Evolution”, which featured the singles "On Purpose" and "Thumbs", with the former being nominated for a Radio Disney Music Award and the latter peaking at number one on Billboard's “Bubbling Under Hot 100” chart and was later certified Platinum.
Carpenter went on to release her third studio album, “Singular: Act I”, in November 2018 and “Singular: Act II” in July 2019.
In January 2021, she signed with Universal Music Group's Island Records, which resulted in the release of “Emails I Can't Send” six months later.
It included singles "Vicious"and "Nonsense", which was certified Platinum by the RIAA.
The album spurred a tour for the pop star as well as a deluxe edition of “Emails I Can't Send”, which included the hit song "Feather".
With plenty of success under her belt at such a young age, Carpenter is looking to evolve her sound.
