Durban - KZN police have confirmed that the suspect who allegedly shot dead a Shallcross businessman is under police guard at a local hospital. The man was critically wounded during the altercation.
Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele it is alleged that the owner of the shop tried to intervene during an altercation in Spencer Road, Shallcross on Tuesday morning.
"One of the patrons drew a firearm and shot the owner fatally injuring him," said Gwala.
She said a family member who was present tried to disarm the suspect which resulted in the suspect being shot in the leg.
"Angry community members gathered and further assaulted the suspect."
She said the suspect was taken to a local hospital where he remains in a critical condition under police guard.
She said a case of murder and attempted murder had been opened.
