Durban - Police have confirmed that a case of public violence has been opened following protest action at UKZN's Westville campus today.
According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane on Wednesday morning at around 11am a group of 300 students embarked on a protest.
"They allegedly stoned property and a police vehicle. Campus security guards together with Public Order Police managed to dispersed the crowd. "
Zwane said the case is being investigated by Westville SAPS.
The University's Executive Director Corporate Relations Ashton Bodrick said that Management wouls engage student leadership to resolve concerns and issues raised by students.
"We are committed to restoring peace and stability on Campus and ensuring that teaching and learning takes place as scheduled," said Brodrick.
Earlier this year groups of students protested about included wi-fi access at off-campus residences and funding for postgraduate studies.
The reasons for the today's protest action has not been established.
