Durban - One person was critically injured after a taxi overturned on the N2 southbound in Newlands, KwaZulu Natal.
Fourteen others sustained minor to moderate injuries Russel Meiring from ER24 said.
"ER24 paramedics came across the scene at 07h56 to find the taxi on its side towards the centre median. Motorists were found helping several people climb out of the vehicle.
"Paramedics tended to the patients while local authorities began to divert the traffic.
"On assessment, medics found that fourteen people had sustained minor to moderate injuries while a woman, found lying inside the taxi, had sustained critical injuries.
"Medics carefully extricated the woman from the vehicle, with the help of the fire services.
"Once extricated, medics treated the patients and provided the critically injured woman with advanced life support interventions. After treatment, the woman was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital while the remaining patients were transported by ambulance," said Meiring.
He said details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
Last month passengers were ejected from a taxi that rolled on the N3 near Bergville.
Meiring said: "Several passengers had been ejected from the vehicle... Medics assessed the patients and found that four people had sustained critical injuries while eleven others had sustained minor to serious injuries."
Earlier this month, 16 people were injured when the taxi they were travelling in crashed through a fence and overturned in Pinetown.
The minibus came to rest on its roof on parked vehicles. A passenger was severely entrapped and the jaws of life had to be used to extricate the patient from the vehicle.
