ANOTHER alleged drive-by shooting has claimed the life of a man and left another injured at a residential complex in Phoenix on Wednesday night.

Gareth Naidoo, the spokesperson for KZN VIP Security, said reports from the scene last night indicated that two men had been shot multiple times at a residential complex in Longcroft, which is not too far from the Phoenix Police Station.

"Our paramedics arrived at the scene and unfortunately, one of the victims was declared dead. The second victim was shot multiple times and was rushed to a hospital."

Naidoo said there were multiple spent rifle cartridges at the scene, found scattered across the roadway,

"The circumstances leading up to this incident cannot be confirmed at this stage. The police and all other emergency services are investigating the incident."

This has been the third drive-by shooting in recent weeks in Phoenix.

In July, Delon Jaganath, 27, and his girlfriend, Micaela Pillay, 26, both self-employed, were killed in the parking lot at their residential complex in Clayfield.

Last Thursday, Claude Denver Mariah and three security guards were killed in an alleged drive-by shooting at a car wash in Westham. The car wash manager survived the attack and is recovering in hospital.

Social media users are raising their concerns with some calling on newly-appointed Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, to intervene.

Mariam Ismail said: "It's now or never. Senzo Mchunu needs to overhaul all major police stations starting with Phoenix, Verulam, Inanda etc. All, and I mean all, personnel (must) be relocated to different stations from the areas they stay in and or frequent... This is the only way crime can be addressed properly. Too many big business people are dealing in drugs and other high profile crime..."

Leila Perumal said: "This is really getting out of hand. Why are they not thinking of the children and the old folk? They could be caught in the crossfire. l wish these people who are doing this, should have some empathy and what ever grudge, etc, could come to some agreement and make peace. So many lives are being lost. Phoenix is really getting a bad name."
