THE bail application of two brothers accused of killing Mount Edgecombe businessman Shailen Singh is expected to commence in the Durban Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
Ferrel Govender, 40, the group chief executive officer of Pro Secure, a security company, and his brother, Darren Govender, 35, the owner of a construction company, were charged with murder on January 2.
While their bid for bail was meant to commence today, Senior state prosecutor Nkululeko Msiya asked that it be rolled over until tomorrow, as they awaited confirmation from the KZN Director of Public Prosecution as to what schedule the bail application would be.
The magistrate granted the adjournment.
Singh, 32, who owned Shails Trans, a logistics company, was shot multiple times while seated in his vehicle in a restaurant's parking lot in Meridian Drive, Umhlanga, on December 29.
The father of one was shot in the head, neck and abdomen. He died at the scene.
According to police, two vehicles, a Black BMW X5 and black Ford Ranger, which were seen leaving the scene, were seized.
Meanwhile, supporters wearing black T-shirts with the pictures of the brothers, picketed outside the court today. Some of their placards read: “Innocent until proven guilty”, “The Govenders are innocent” and “The truth will set them free”.
