Two people were killed and others injured during several collisions on the M19 on Saturday night.

Garrith Jamieson, the head of ALS Paramedics, said there were three serious collisions within three hours.

"Our paramedics attended to three seperate accidents between Makro and the M19 bridge. Reports from the scenes are that cars were driving at excessive speeds at the time of the collisions."

He said two people, a male and female believed to be family members, were killed when the vehicle they were in burst into flames on impact by another vehicle just after 10:30pm.

"Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the vehicle alight. Paramedics and bystanders tried to dose the flames. However, the inferno was to strong and once the eThekweni Fire Department put the blaze out, it was established that two occupants had been killed. The second driver sustained no injuries."

He said ALS paramedics then attended to two more collisions on the same stretch of road and treated and transported two patients to hospital.

"Saps were in attendance at both scenes and will investigate the causes of these crashes."
