Cape Town - Renowned musician and conductor Richard Cock and outstanding violinist Samson Diamond will headline this year's Klein Karoo Klassique Gala Concert in Oudtshoorn from August 9 to 11.

The specially assembled Cape Town Festival Chamber Orchestra will join them on stage to deliver a unique and captivating musical experience.

Cock has curated a programme that includes Mozart's Violin Concerto No 4 performed by Diamond, as well as tributes to Gershwin and Beethoven. The concert will feature a mix of serious classical works and lighter pieces by composers such as Brahms, Kreisler, and Vaughan Williams.

“Classical music enthusiasts should not miss this event. Diamond is a talented violinist who performs Mozart's lovely Violin Concerto No 4. Additionally, we honour Gershwin, who created Rhapsody in Blue 100 years ago. We commemorate Beethoven's Symphony No 9 with a 200th anniversary homage,” Cock said.

He noted that the work by Gershwin was the first jazz concerto, and Beethoven's Ode to Joy used a large choir in a performance for the first time. His Ninth Symphony is a revolutionary work, unlike anything else in the whole repertoire, and performing part of it is really exciting, said Cock.

“There are a lot of young players in the orchestra, and the audience will be amazed by their enthusiasm and their love for playing music,” Cock said.

Diamond expressed his excitement about sharing the stage with Cock once again, highlighting the meaningful connection he aims to establish with the audience through their performance.“I love working with Maestro Cock, who is an excellent communicator with audiences,” he said.
