Cape Town - September has arrived and we’re now days away from the anticipated Weekend Argus Women’s Wellness Experience which boasts a list of influential keynote speakers gearing up to share heaps of knowledge and exciting activities come September 28.

A variety of the Cape’s leading women from multiple health spaces will grace the President Hotel for a day of informative engagements. Attendees will be treated to all the most essential and important woman-focused sessions and allowed to ask questions and advice around the various services brought to the event.

On the bill is Pilates instructor Anastacia Williams who will share some of her healing techniques through her short session with guests at the event.

The Weekend Argus caught up with Williams as we prepare for the big day.

She explained the benefits of incorporating Pilates into daily routines to improve both physical and mental well-being.

“You start a journey with yourself, whether once a week or thrice. You will start to feel stronger, more flexible and your body awareness increases, this comes with intentional breathing and thinking.

“With all things there will be challenges along the way. However, your progress will be enough to motivate you. Not only do you change physically and mentally but your outlook on life begins to change, as you allow it,” Williams said.

“Learning to not only listen to your body, however, to understand what it needs at any given moment. As our hormones change, it affects every single aspect of our beings. The practice was set up to be intentional. All your focus is on what you are doing now, centering yourself to your voice as you wade through thoughts and feelings as your body changes.”

The vibrant Williams shared tips on how breaks and movements like stretching throughout the day can help boost productivity and cognitive function.

“Sitting all day places pressure on the spine, any one thing done too long gets strenuous. Taking a moment to get up between meetings or if it’s a back to back meeting day, turn your camera off and stand up. A roll down and allow yourself to hang over like a rag doll. Shoulder rolls and you're sitting in your chair; not only are you relieving your spine with deep breathing incorporated, you’re able to step back with a clear focus.”
