A CAPE Town single mom is spending this Mother’s Day handing out meals to 100 underprivileged women in her community.
Michelle Raubenheimer from Epping Forest in Elsies River, her son Mickyle and her parents, Hazel and Martin, spent the weekend preparing today’s lunch which is to be distributed to mothers in her community.
She said wanted to celebrate mothers in the area who had fallen on heard times.
“My mother raised me to always be a giving person. Even if I only had two slices of bread for school, I would share with someone,” she said.
“I know what it’s like to not have, which is why I thought I would like to do this for the mothers in the community,” she added.
The Mother’s Day meal has been prepared for 100 women and will be served with a cooldrink. Raubenheimer has also printed a poem for each mother which will be distributed with the meals.
To make this possible, she collected donations from people in her community, her church and also dug into her own pocket.
“I love people and to be able to make a difference like this, means everything to me. It comes from a place of love.
“When I see someone’s face light up, it warms my heart. Some of these women are people I grew up in front of, and they helped me when I didn’t have.
“I want to treat them and I know it means a lot to them,” she said.
Raubenheimer also makes sandwiches, warm meals and Easter or Christmas meals for children in the area.
“People will always thank me when they see me, which spurs me on to keep giving where I can,” she said.
Although she does not have much, Raubenheimer still wants to use the little she has to make a difference in the lives of others.
