Cape Town - Pakistani parents are searching for their six-year-old son Shanawaaz Asghar who was snatched by armed men near their home in Kensington.
His mother Shumala Asghar, 30, said everything happened so quickly.
Asghar was walking her three children, including Shanawaaz, to school on Wednesday morning just before 8am.
Armed men jumped out of a silver car and accosted Asghar and her children on the corners of 4th Avenue and 9th Street in Kensington.
Asghar said three out of the six men were armed when they grabbed Shanawaaz.
The family has been living in South Africa for approximately 11 years and moved into the Kensington two years ago.
Shanawaaz is described as a confident boy who would react if anyone called out his name. He is just under a metre tall and has dark curly hair.
Family friend Fran Joubert told Weekend Argus that the family has not received any ransom calls and are hoping to get more information.
“The incident happened just metres away from the school in front of their house.
“The mother is in distress because she has not heard anything. The father has been at the police station.
“We urging the public, anyone with camera’s in the area to please help find this boy.”
Police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut said the circumstances surrounding the kidnapping was under investigation.
“The kidnapping of a six year old boy in 4th Avenue Kensington this morning is under police investigation. Six suspects fled with the victim, and are yet to be arrested.
“Due to the sensitive nature of our investigation, we will not be disclosing any further information, “ said Traut.
Kensington Community Policing Forum spokesperson Reece Abrahams also urged everyone to pray for the boys safe return.
